Your Safety is Our Priority
CTDesi is built on trust, respect, and community. Weβre all neighbors here, but a little caution keeps everyone safe. These simple guidelines help you connect confidently and spot the rare bad actor before they waste your time or money.
Housing
- Never wire money or pay a deposit before seeing the place in person β video tours can be faked.
- Verify the person's identity and, for rentals, confirm they actually own or manage the property.
- Be wary of prices far below market rate β that's the #1 rental-scam hook.
- Meet at the property during daylight and bring a friend or family member if you can.
- Get every agreement in writing before any money changes hands.
Carpooling
- Meet in a public place first β a coffee shop or grocery store parking lot works well.
- Share your trip details (driver, plate number, route, ETA) with a friend or family member.
- Ask to see a driver's license and make sure it matches the person you spoke with.
- Confirm the car is insured and comfortable for the route before committing to a schedule.
- Trust your instincts β if anything feels off, cancel. No ride is worth your safety.
Baby Sitting
- Interview candidates in a public place before ever inviting anyone to your home.
- Call at least two local references β real families they've worked with recently.
- Do a short paid trial while you're home before leaving your child alone with anyone.
- Agree on rates, hours, and emergency contacts in writing up front.
- For sitters: meet the family first too β your safety matters just as much.
Jobs
- Never pay for training, equipment, or a "placement fee" up front β legitimate employers don't charge you to work.
- Be skeptical of salaries far above market rate for little experience β that's bait.
- Don't share your SSN, bank details, or documents before a verified offer.
- Research the company independently β search the name plus the word "scam".
- "Check cashing" or "payment forwarding" roles are money-laundering scams. Always.
How to Spot a Scammer
β οΈ Urgency & pressure
"Act now or lose it" β scammers rush you so you don't think.
β οΈ Overpayment tricks
They "accidentally" overpay and ask you to refund the difference.
β οΈ Refusing to meet
Endless excuses for why they can't meet in person or video call.
β οΈ Untraceable payments
Wire transfers, gift cards, or crypto β no legitimate deal needs these.
β οΈ Too good to be true
Below-market rent, above-market pay. If it feels unreal, it is.
β οΈ Moving off the board
Pushing to switch to unfamiliar apps or overseas numbers right away.
One golden rule: never send money, documents, or personal details to someone you haven't met in person.
